    1. Hi Lars, No, that's not the set. What I saw was on Yahoo! Japan Auctions actually, not eBay, and it was framed in glass. I collect pictures of auction items, but as I don't really have an interest in miniatures, I didn't think much of it at the time so no picture. But this 2600th one caught my eye as I've never seen one of these, I thought it was quite interesting! Here's one I did save as it had a case and rosette with it, so I thought that was nice: I've also seen a Sacred Crown mini, but it was a solo, not part of any set, and no picture saved. :o
    2. Yes, I have seen such a group, there was one up for auction but I do not recall what all was there - Sacred Treasure and Rising Sun for sure, there were 5 or 6 if I recall correctly, I wan to say Red Cross mini was there, I definitely don't recall seeing a 2600 anniversary mini though. The ones that were in the auction were indeed mounted in some type of frame with glass. (Is that kinda what you mean by a mounted group?)
    3. Have not seen one before, but thought it interesting:
    4. Are original cases most likely pasteboard, similar to the other later war medals, or possibly of lacquer type? I'm wondering if the black plastic cases were influenced by the original (?) ..... There is no reference to the cases in the "book", nor any mention of discerning the veteran replicas from originals. There must be some difference(s), or does one really just need to know the lineage from owner to owner to guarantee an authentic? There was what was claimed to be an original on eBay a week or so ago, from the Sessler collection, via the Mr. Nakabori referred to in the "book". I don't believe it sold, it seemed cheap ($1000 starting?) if it was a true original, but maybe that's not cheap? It had no differences that I could see as compared to a replica and I suspect people would be a bit concerned about putting down that kind of money for something that might be original and only have a story on which to rely.
    5. How does one discern a replica from an original? They look so very similar, are there any particular features that vary?
    6. With regards to Red Cross rosettes, specifically the ones found separately in their own boxes - were these intended as "upgrades"? EX: Not uncommon to find the life member rosettes, both the lapel button type, and the type that belongs on the ribbons - were these given to members that became life members after the fact to upgrade the member's ribbon, rather than issue an entirely different medal??
    7. Well, if it was an original one, somebody got a darned good deal on it!
    8. I've wondered about that too - the wooden case vs. the plastic ones. I like this one, still no idea how to tell an authentic authentic vs. authentic replica. I was thinking about bidding, but I've seen others in wooden cases, so I know they're out there. A bit more corrosion than I like to see, and some marks on the ribbon. I'm a picky bastard! ;)
    9. This is definitely the place for medals and orders, but when it comes to any other aspect of Japanese militaria, that is the place to be!! There is an exceptional amount of knowledge over there, some of those guys have collections to blow the mind! Have fun on that forum, there is a looooooot of stuff to plug through when you have spare time.
    10. I would hit up the Japanese Forum over at Gunboards......
    11. Yeah, I hear that. But somebody else will certainly enjoy it! A very nice looking piece for sure.
    12. Something I have observed over the past several months of data collecting is that the White Ribbon versions will often have the rosette with them, while the Green Ribbon versions do not. Granted, I've only really been paying attention for the past 6-7 months or so, but I have never seen the green version with a rosette! Can anybody verify one way or the other, did the "greens" ever come with them? Originals with rosettes?
    13. Sorry for fuzzy pics., somebody posted in another forum, wondering if these could be identified. 1st pic., top left ???? bottom ???? top right we got. 2nd pic., no clue! Couldn't find in INLG - guessing maybe the unknowns are possibly from one of the many associations/local groups???
    14. Do you have any pics. of the fakes? If you do, please post them! If no photos, what tipped you off that they are fakes?
    15. I would try an alcohol like ethanol. Propanol would probably work too. Then I'd grease or oil that thing right after.
    16. That is wonderful!! Thank you for that close-up, very nice indeed! That one'd be worth a shiny nickel or two!!
    17. Are there any examples of these award documents with a foreign name on them??
    18. Very cool!! I've not seen that before.
    19. Interesting!! Were any of the Golden Kites or Rising Suns issued in pasteboard, or just the ST's?
    20. Sweet! I'd like to see the top of the case if anybody has a picture.
    21. What is the ANS collection? So, the medal Tim posted looks a lot like the very first pic. way up at the top of the thread. The other ones, the differences are obvious. What are some of the tell-tale signs of the original replicas vs. the original originals?? I have also seen these in wooden cases with gilt writing as well as the black ones. In what kind of case were the originals placed?
    22. Yeah, I was surprised to see that one with the blank reverse! I'm not yet in the market for one of these, just gathering data. I figured none of these were original, prices are a fraction of a fraction of what an original would go for I'd imagine! I certainly don't mind collecting an authentic, post-war reproduction! On the one with the white ribbon - were these a later version of the medal, or were they made along with the green ribbon version? Wondering why the dramatic difference in design.
    23. And lastly, the white ribbon version, I've only seen one type of reverse to the white ribbon: So what's the story with the two ribbon colors and very different reverse on the white ribbon version??
