How nice that the documents still accompanying the awards.
Could you post the life-saving document? Never seen one from Saxony.
Do you know the reason for the award?

Let's save the picture on the site for posterity. If Alex don't mind?

There is one small online auction soon now in Finland and few imperial groups on sale as well. Unfortunitly I didn't known this place before, they had been sold so many nice items under the current market value (last month went one group of 5 awards including St.Georg cross, medal for zeal, Russo-Japanese war, etc - 240 EUR or something like that. Someone was happy!) This month I have my pids done and lets see whats the result is!
Well, how did it went?

Fascinating!! Thanks for showing this to us. A Coburg 'Prince Alfons" badge -sort of...
A MOST interesting first paragraph of the letter too!
Have you read "The Royals and the Reich" at all?
Seems the two were pals.
I've only seen a sensationalistic documentary on the subject. I will try to get hold of the mentioned book.
Here is the back, but can't say that I'm very experienced with these, so please enlighten me with the variants.

I think we had a thread on this subject some time ago. But I can't seem to find it.
Here is another example (recently sold) that the duke (and probably other of his compadres) kept bestowing house-orders after the war and weimar era.

Well, I hope that the owner of the full sized medal bar (formerly in George Seymour's collection and now in a very good home) ended up with that mini chain, even though the Baden MKFVO-Ritter has been swapped out for the Swedish Order there and will be horribly difficult to find a correct mini.
George did not own that mini chain, so it was split off from the Baron's group before the very early 1970s.
Did the auctioneer even know whose it was?
Doesn't the super wide frame on the 1870 EK2 look like a 1939 size?
So there is a known full sized bar?! You wouldn't have a xerox of it?
My hopes goes out to the owner that he could complement his medal bar.
Edit: I found it in one of thies catalogs. What a beaut.

The realised prices were surprisingly high, with the financial despair and all, so I unexpectedly failed to get this for myself.

It was a very nice bar and the Bavarian Order of Saint Michael must be the best looking of the german orders.
This also went for sale at the same time.

Maybe he got demoted, what do we know.

Too bad the grouping to him and his brother was almost, completely ripped asunder.
There were more but I can't be able to find them.

I think I like the bar but have to ad it seems it has been refilled - as it was sold almost empty some time ago!
Sascha, the man with the archive.
The detail of the Siamese Order of the White Elephant is incredible, could you post a close-up? BTW what is the text the picture is taken on? Is it a set?Sorry David don't have any other pictures and don't know about the background. Try hearing with the seller .

Have acquired this red cross decoration (jeton?), enamel looks good (if you don't mind the damage) and detail on the piece is what I would expect.
But I haven't been able to identify it. Marked 1905 and St Petersburg (?) on the back and 85TO(?) discreetly on the front.
Does any of you have any clue about it?

What do you think?
A bit cramped ain't it?

Ah, very nice to see it went to a forum member.
It rushed away from me the last seconds.

If anyone's interested, I'll post some examples of the limited material I have been lucky enough to find...

Please do.
It would be great to illustrate, the little I've read about these men and women, that fought for their nations freedom.

These are very nice and still affordable, but steadily rising.
I've been on the lookout for one for F?silier Rgt. K?nigin Victoria von Schweden (Pommersches) Nr. 34 for years but not been successful, anybody seen one?

It's dated 1926 and signed AE.

Definitely not my field, but is this man identifiable?
Can only recognize the Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire.

Nothing wrong with the group, except it's not sold as one.
Same guy that ripped this apart http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=29883

A painting and a picture of Kraut himself.

Here is two more of his ribbonbars. Seems the tailor managed to get a hold of the ribbon of the wedding commemoration earlier in the war.

This lieutenant got his iron cross at Vionville 16th of august 1870. After von Bredow's Death Ride, the infantry from Brandenburg swept in, and with massive losses fought the french. Apparently it was here Koch got his wound.
