    1. This photo comes with the badge, and is claimed to be the former badge owner wearing it. No iron clad documentation that it's a real group, though. Can anyone ID the unit?
    2. Chip: If you are referring to the KCI Expocenter and the KCMCC show, I am sorry I missed you. I bumped into Allan Henderson, Joe Bender and John Conway, but not many others. It seems this years show was light on Imperial and also show visitors. I didn't see much Imperial at all. I did pick up a nice Prussian General Honor Medal with a replaced ribbon. Got a bargain on a pair of USAAF High altitude fleece lined flight pants in really decent shape. My 11 year old picked up a Japanese Officer's visor. The big event was it was my 5 year old's very first show. He had an absolute blast, and was awed by the reinactors strolling around. He got a couple of die casts, a Corsair and a Sherman Tank. Like the twins advocate, I am sparking interest in the next generation of collectors. If only I could convince the wife!
    3. Thanks Chuck. That is a beautiful award. Would this be awarded in addition to or in lieu of the Ribbon with metal wreath long service awards?
    4. I'll go with endearingly eccentric, but frankly, looney is okay with me, too. We are indeed the custodians of history.
    5. this thread must not be viewed by the public at large, particularly the spouses of collectors. It merely reinforces the general opinion that we are, as was said by John Cleese: "right looney daft fellows!"
    6. That is most definitely it! Thanks for all the research you did for me.
    7. It looks Cyrillic and I am not versed in it, but it kind of looks like: "REIPOKOSOKOH" The shield appears to have 3 diamonds in the middle. and yes, it does look like it was added to the cross, and not original. Interesting.
    8. Thanks Kev. It was $50.00 US. So you think it is a Romanian award? I began to suspect it was not Russian when I could find nothing about it in any reference. The long service awards I had seen that were Imperial Russian were like the ones George had posted. Where do you think the shield piece came from? It looks like it has been on there forever. Thanks, Chris
    9. Do you know what the heraldry on the reverse side is? Not a Romanov Eagle for sure, but vaguely familiar. Thanks for your reply George.
    10. Did Imperial Russia have a 25 year Long Service Award similar to the Prussian one? http://www.manions.com/bid/pastbidsitemdet...47247&list=9461 Check out this link and tell me what you think. Any way to date this piece? Thanks in advance.
    11. Thank you gentlemen. I am attempting to listen to what these wonderful bars say to the viewer, but I am very much at the "Voici le chien." level!!!! I appreciate your taking time to answer my questions. Chris Werner
    12. Way over mine (my wife's ) budget. But here is a question from a newbie in regards to order of presidence. Why is the RAO 4th so far back on the bar; because it is a civilian award (no swords)? I thought the RAO was a fairly important award to be given, regardless of class. Thanks in advance for the education. chris
    13. Congratulations on this beautiful group. This is history at its finest, and why we should all collect. I'm glad it went to a collector like you, who will cherish and preserve this families' stories.
    14. And life goes on. When I was growiing up, I can remember my Grandfather playing cards at the beach club with his buddies-All WWI vets. A lot of these guys were in the 77th, so I heard some marvelous stories as a boy. Now my Father's WWII generation is dying out. My Dad just turned 80, and he is in pretty good health. But someday soon, these men will be gone from the face of the earth. Which all shows the importance of our hobby, preserving the mementos and stories of these men and women and their experiences. And thus, the importance of all of us passing our passion of history along to the next generation of collectors. We will remember!
    15. Kev. There is good info in The Iron Cross Book by Privetera, also. This would make sense, because regardless of the actual ID of this Officer, I would certainly date the Miniature to the 1st quarter of the 19th century. I guess the only way to know for sure if this was an actual EK or a Kulm cross would be to positively identify this officer and find out what conflicts he was involved in, and which medals and orders he was actually awarded.
    16. Thanks Pete. I appreciate your help. I tried Babelfish. It's pretty neat. Is there anyone else who might have some info or comments to add?
    17. I'm doing some horse-trading with Bob Stubben for this beautiful miniature he posted over on WAF. There is a thread in the WAF Imperial Section, too. He is tentatively Id'd as Field Marshall Ivan Paskevich. Any comments or other thoughts on Id are appreciated, and I would love to know what Orders he is wearing. Thanks.
    18. When there is 21" of snow on the ground and 40 mph plus winds, the only place to be is the caribbean, or sitting in front of your computer spending money like a drunken sailor!
    19. Uwe Bretzendorfer had a RAO 4th Class with a Life Saving ribbon attached for sale on his site. I wonder what the criteria was for this sort of ribbon? I see what you mean about the Eagle. It looks like a third type, not a fourth type. There is a great article on the Eagle types on medalnet.net
    20. Thanks Stogie. That's kind of what I thought. You were telling me previously a fair price would be about $200 to $300 with the correct ribbon, I believe.
