    1. Chip:

If you are referring to the KCI Expocenter and the KCMCC show, I am sorry I missed you. I bumped into Allan Henderson, Joe Bender and John Conway, but not many others. It seems this years show was light on Imperial and also show visitors. I didn't see much Imperial at all. I did pick up a nice Prussian General Honor Medal with a replaced ribbon. Got a bargain on a pair of USAAF High altitude fleece lined flight pants in really decent shape. My 11 year old picked up a Japanese Officer's visor.

The big event was it was my 5 year old's very first show. He had an absolute blast, and was awed by the reinactors strolling around. He got a couple of die casts, a Corsair and a Sherman Tank.

Like the twins advocate, I am sparking interest in the next generation of collectors. If only I could convince the wife!

    2. Thanks Kev.

It was $50.00 US. So you think it is a Romanian award? I began to suspect it was not Russian when I could find nothing about it in any reference. The long service awards I had seen that were Imperial Russian were like the ones George had posted.

Where do you think the shield piece came from? It looks like it has been on there forever.

      Thanks,

      Chris

      Hallo Ramblinfarms

when I saw the picture I knew it reminded me of a Romanian award, but the "shield piece" to the front/rear threw me, I had a quick look in one of my books and found this illustration, please excuse the poor photo of a poor illustration, it is mis-identified in the book as a Civil Service award but I believe it is more correctly for a NCO or a Private with 25 years service.

In any case the one in Mannions has been messed with. What price was on it??

    3. And life goes on.

When I was growiing up, I can remember my Grandfather playing cards at the beach club with his buddies-All WWI vets. A lot of these guys were in the 77th, so I heard some marvelous stories as a boy.

Now my Father's WWII generation is dying out. My Dad just turned 80, and he is in pretty good health. But someday soon, these men will be gone from the face of the earth.

Which all shows the importance of our hobby, preserving the mementos and stories of these men and women and their experiences.

And thus, the importance of all of us passing our passion of history along to the next generation of collectors.

      We will remember!

There is good info in The Iron Cross Book by Privetera, also. This would make sense, because regardless of the actual ID of this Officer, I would certainly date the Miniature to the 1st quarter of the 19th century. I guess the only way to know for sure if this was an actual EK or a Kulm cross would be to positively identify this officer and find out what conflicts he was involved in, and which medals and orders he was actually awarded.

    5. I'm doing some horse-trading with Bob Stubben for this beautiful miniature he posted over on WAF. There is a thread in the WAF Imperial Section, too. He is tentatively Id'd as Field Marshall Ivan Paskevich.

Any comments or other thoughts on Id are appreciated, and I would love to know what Orders he is wearing.

      Thanks.

    6. Hello again:

I forgot to comment on the ribbon which looks like an old silk Prussian lifesaving medal ribbon (although a bit too orange perhaps in the photo/scan). Note that although not the standard RAO ribbon, such a ribbon was possible under extremely-rare special circumstances. Perhaps Rick Research or Medalnet could fill us in regarding the RAO awards with lifesaving ribbons.

      Best regards,

      "SPM"

Uwe Bretzendorfer had a RAO 4th Class with a Life Saving ribbon attached for sale on his site. I wonder what the criteria was for this sort of ribbon?

I see what you mean about the Eagle. It looks like a third type, not a fourth type. There is a great article on the Eagle types on medalnet.net
