    1. Hi Sorry about getting this topic in 2 halves but it was my first one. Perhaps I could add that the lock plate and trigger guard are superbly engraved and the but is checkered walnut. ian
    2. Sorry I don't know where I lost the description. This is a belt clip Percussion cap pistol used by Cheshire constabulary. It is engaved on the octagonal barrell Hyde Division no 12.The lock is engaved Hyatt but this was certainly the supplier rather than the maker. The barrell length is 18cms and the bore aproc 1 1/2 cms. It has a swivel ramrod
    3. Hi, it is for the London Metropolitan police G division.I am not sure which Kinks reign it is for but no doubt some other member will know. Cheers Ian
    4. Mervyn, you didn't sell the helmet to me so perhaps it is still at the flat but don't remember seeing it Ian
    5. Hi Mervyn, I am certain that this plate is an unenameld one. Staffordshire were the first I think to issue enamelled plates. The early ones were oval in shape and for Staffordshire county and enamelled, then they became Staffordshire and Stoke still oval anf finally Staffordshire police in1974 when they adopted the star shaped plate with the light green colour and currently the darker green colour. I used to help out at the now closed staffs police museum and they didn't have a plain star shaped plate on display. hope this answers your inquiry. Ian
    6. Hi Brian, I am sure that this plate is one that was either never enamelled or one that it has come off. I have never seen a Staffs bobby wearing one. Happy new year Ian

    10. Hi, Brian, just to give you 2 more Staffordshire items to look for there are 2 other types of Staffs whistles. The first is the acme thunderer type with the side panels covered with the tops of staffs buttons. The other that I haven't seen and is described as very rare is described as an oval whistle with a crest attached to a porteous top. Cheers Ian
    11. OK Mervyn, The act appointed 9 Special high constables with petty constables under them the no varying according to the size of the division usually between 5 and10.It struggled because most of the magistrates were against it and there was no one in overall control. It strugled on until 1856 when the County and borough act replaced it, the high constables becoming superintendents but with no great increase in strength. I have some Items from this time and will try and put them on as soon as I can. 3 Inspectors from the met transfered in 1835,1840 and 1842 to become Special high constables, 2 of the going on to become chief constables of Macclesfield.
    12. Mervyn, Peel set up a police force in Cheshire on the 1st of June 1829. It was intended as a trial for all the other county forces but was not a sucess so it wasn't extended to any other counties at that time. does this just pip the Met? Ian
    13. My 2 are identical and as far as I can see the same as yours. I bought them many years ago at an arms fair. I agree the last word could be a village or area name. There is also a line of indian! script but cannot type that in for you and I don't think it will photograph.
    14. Hi Mervyn, you of all people should know that she is priceless.
