The QPM and Police LSM are pretty much de rigeur for very senior officers - and it's not uncommon to find a CBE thrown in to the bargain. That said, these days, there are quite a few Assistant Chief Constables and Deputy Chief Constables without any medal ribbons.
Hello Tony,
Thank you for the reply, learned something today! I know the story about the bars on Belgian uniforms because we have the same tradition that at some point a senior officer must have typical medals...
I try to find uniforms from UK senior officers but always prefer the ones with some "bars" on because that tells something about the man who wore the uniform. Not easy to find however

Hi,
The ribbons are from L-R: Order of the British Empire (Civil Division), Order of St. John of Jerusalem (Knight?), King's police Medal for Distinguished Service and Police Long Service & Good Conduct Medal (1951).
Doc
thank you Riley for this quick reply and ID of the ribbons!
Does anyone knows if these are common ribbons for police senior officers?

Dear Love4history,
The uniform was indeed worn by General Van Daele, Chief of Staf - Belgium Army. I can now because he gave me the uniform
I know, i should have asked him for his medals at that time, but i was so impresed by the men and it was such a good conversation that i was home before i knew it...
Thank you for showing my the way to the pictures

Ribbon bar question
in Northern European & Baltic States

Hello Timo,
It seems that the two ribbon bars belong together. The blue ( medal Order of Leopold II ), red ( medal Order of the Crown ) and black/yellow/red ( military medal 1st class ) are medals you deserve when you serve some years in the military.
The other medals ( third and fourth ) are WWII medals and the last is indeed the commemorative medal for good and loyal service to King Albert I during 18 december 1909 en 18 februari 1934.
