Nice cross. The style of engraving and the nice patina leave little doubt
that it was period done.

I am no expert on these at all but I do have a 2nd class L18 to compare against.

While I can not add anything about the combination of awards or the bars owner, I find
the 1914 Wiederholungsspange very interesting. There has always been problems with
trying to determine what is real and what is fake when it comes to these little beauties.
Most have come to believe that the common style found on ebay or dealers sites are fake.
Our friend Marshall has done lots of research on these. The one pictured on this bar
appears to be the same style as the ones causing so much concern.

"KO" used more than one core design.

I went back looking at old threads and found what I thought was the same style pin system.
I was WRONG in saying that this was a '57 style pin although they look (roughly) similar
they are definately not the same. I apologise for jumping to conclusions.
That being said----I still don't like this cross.
57 style pin system---

$3100 is a LOT of money even for a GOOD 1870 Ek1. I just saw an ebay auction for a
1914 Godet with side hooks with a starting bid of $1100. I thought there was a recession
going on.

Definately not a period piece. If I remember correctly ( hard to do ) There was
a big discussion over at WAF concerning a 1914 cross with this style pin system
and I was thought to be used on 1957 era replacement crosses.

I have not heard of Wagner using different cores. I would not buy any Wagner marked
1870 unless it was a perfect match to the type A core mentioned in the BDOS artical.

The prinzen is fake and I am prett sure the full sized is also.
A Wagner 1870 should have a flat "8" in the date and not the "over-under"
sytle shown. One sould always be wary of Wagner maker marked pieces. I have
seen the "Wagner 14 Loth" mark added to all sorts of crosses.

The type B core is typically called the "short 7" core.
Here is a very informative article about early 1870s that helps to explain
the differences.------------

BTW--Great looking cross.

All Godet 1819 Ek1 have a unique pattern in their frame beading at the
inner corners. Once you know what to look for, it's an easy way to spot
one and distinguish it from a Meybauer which can look very much Godetish.
Interesting-this pattern does not match Godet 2nd class crosses.

All of this from answering one Craig's list add.
WOW--Well done.

Personally I like the repaired ones better than "minty fresh".
I agree completely. I like crosses that show a sence of history.
Here is another with a similar repair.

I thought I had one that was a match to yours to compare against but on closer
examination, mine has a slightly different style core. --my bad.

If you mean the crown on the obverse side being the same as the crown on the reverse side?
Maybe Steve or Micha will correct me on this but aren't the crowns always different from
side to side.

I am not 100% on this but I am thinking Deumer.

1000 silver would indecate that the cross was made of pure silver. I really doubt that there
were any "pure" silver crosses made.

Happy to help where I can. I don't venture to far into the TR side but I couldn't help but see
the similarities in the frames.

This is one of the Latvian fakes that have been showing up now for 5 or 6 years.

My guess would be that this is a commorative/ patriotic piece.
Hard to to place an age to it.

I like it. Thanks for posting it.

Interesting pieces. They do beg the question---Why?
