    1. I agree. The last cross I picked up was at a show in March and it wasn't what I would

consider a great deal. They aren't any bargins to be had on ebay either. Ek2s are selling

for what I used to buy screwback Ek1s for. Now I just sit back and wait and hope for that

      great deal to come along.

    2. NOT a fake. That is a pillowback style cross made by the maker "AWS". ( A. Werner & S?hne, Berlin )

These are a hard to find variation and usually bring a premium on the market. They can

be found in screwback and pinback versions and can be found with silver or brass frames.

I have one just like yours with a brass frame and iron core.

Congrats on finding a very nice cross.

    3. One of the reasons I like Imperial Eks is the amount of variation to be found.

Here are four crosses showing that.

A nice heavy silver framed Godet. A brass framed AWS pillowback. A mint frosted

B.H. Mayer, and a 1920's one piece replacement style cross.

The frames go from silver, to gold, to silver and white, to silver and gold.

    4. I agree with Steve in that the hinge and pin do not look 1870ish. They look almost TR style to me.

Another thing that looks off is the frame beading. The wide, heavy beading looks very much like

the beading found on the Latvian crosses that have been all over ebay the last couple years.

Here is the common Latvian fake for comparison-------
