    1. Can you help me with Japan medal he wears. I know it is Order of the Rising sun but I am not sure which grade. 3rd, 4th or 5th? This cardboard photo was taken in Wien. Considering the paper, it is probably from the 1890ies.  Can you tell me is he a soldier or ambassador maybe? I am not familiar with Japanese uniforms so any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for the information, much appreciated!

I didn't know that the IKOM workers are doing restrikes of the Homeland War badges. I wouldn't be surprised if they did the Yugoslav ones either.

I know for sure they are doing restrikes of badges but I am just guessing they could do it with YU orders too.

Few people I know were victims of these scammers.  They lost thousands of euros.  These scammers are all well known and much appreciated Croatian collectors. They are one of the reasons I stopped collecting Croatian badges.

Recently I had an opportunity of buying an exact example as you've shown. It also came in a cellophane bag and with two ribbons. I met the seller in person and I held the item in my hands. It doesn't look that shiny in person to be honest. He claims that he bought 12kg of this order directly from IKOM back in the 90's. I don't see why would he lie about that since he is one of the biggest collectors I've met in person. Here is his site, he's got some impressive stuff. http://www.eu-militaria.com/

He also said that he bought experimental pieces from IKOM. For example Order of Brotherhood and Unity 3rd class which was never actually used since there were only two classes of this order, Order of War Flag etc. The photos of those experimental orders which you can see around the internet are actually his. Unfortunately he sold those orders years ago to someone in Russia if I'm not mistaken.

      Here are the seller's photos:

      3.thumb.JPG.e549198ce7f25c399fa9600d291c9167.JPG

Almost all on that page is sold He doesn´t have it anymore.  Probably it is true that he bought big stash of medals and orders cause all big dealers from Zagreb bought it too. From IKOM, Jadran film and later they were buying Croatian medals and orders, buckets of them too.

I am not that familiar with Yugoslav orders but one thing I know for sure. People from IKOM are doing restrikes of all Croatian badges from Homeland war. Market is flooded with them and new collectors can´t say what are the real thing or restrikes.  i don´t know if this is IKOM´s chance to earn more money or few IKOM workers side gig.

So I wouldn´t be surprised if they are doing it with Yugoslav orders too

      Beautiful set of photos Overture!

How do you know? I'm a rookie at KuK so I'd like to know when I see a fellow Croatian in KuK.

      I’m interested too Von Thronstahl...

is it the medals , the 3rd and 4th?

      or the collar style maybe?

      tony

None of it.  This photo was part of the bigger lot. I remember when it hit the market. I have childish dreams of rejoining this and similar lots.

The item in the pic I found is 'worth' 15grand so it would be accurately described? Attributed to a man called Handel. Thst is not part of the design in this case surely?

About that one you found, I am sure that Handel is not authors name. I´ve never seen author whose signature is big as 1/3 of his work.

And their description is too general so I conclude they know nothing about this relief.

      Just my 2 cents.

    7. Hermes or Mercury was very popular in the beginning of 20th century. Lot of merchant organizations carried his name. For example  pin of "Croatian merchant society"(literal translation):

Handel in German means trade, trading, commerce, business..... so this tinny is probably of merchant marine or some organization close to sea trade. And production of these types of badges, nevermind the theme, was also very popular in that period.

You are all probably familiar with this Abzeichen:

      01039q00-630x_.jpg

It is Austro-hungarian Kappenabzeichen but A-U never had any Handel U-boots like Germans did.

    8. Recently, I´ve acquired this badge. Friend sold it to me. I can get back my money if it is not good.  My experience with Imperial uboot badges is equal to none and I would like to start learning.

For now, I can take only photos with my cellphone and this is the best it gets. I provided a scan of the front too.

Hook is bent and I think it´s better not to touch it.

What is your opinion? Is it good badge or fake?  Thank you in advance for your help.
