Hello
This badge looks like good with a nice gilding , but the eagle's head looks in the rough and the square marks is uncommon for me (I remember a round mark)
Opinions ?
thanks

Hello,
In my opinion this looks like a copy of the schwerin u-boat badge . I would expect to see the maker name and adress stamped on the back as most schwerin's were . Also I have held many repro's made in the 1990's that looked like this badge shown here , I even owned one as a display but gave it away to a friend who wanted a hole filler . This badge looks very nice but I just do not have a good feeling about it , the repro's out there now are too darn good !
Best Regards,
Joe
Hi Joe
I don't like this badge but I find it interesting .Of course it isn't a highly collectable objet .
IMO the badge is rather close to a K&Q type than a Schwerin type

Hello ,
From what I can see in these pictures I feel this is a cast repro u-boat badge . The details look very " soft" , not sharp and crisp as I would expect to see . I would like to see better pictures , if possible .
Best Regards,
Joe
Hi Joe
Your opinion is very interesting but I remain in doubt . Why to make a copy so strange , uncommon ?

This one recently made an appearance on Thomas Huss site (a very brief appearance as it sold very quickly). Lovely and rare original example of the hollow back U-Boat Badge and in super condition.
Not the rarest of the hollow back versions, but still very hard to find, and now finally being accepted as original after being falsely branded as suspect for so many years..
Hello Gordon
What do you think about the hollow back badge attributed to Meybauer that Thomas showed some time ago ?
Many thanks

A well known fake I'm afraid. The heavily rippled tie ribbon at the base of the wreath gives it away. It is however, very close to a known original type in Tombak.
It turns up with a variety of different markings, as well as unmarked spcimens.
Here is one with a spurious Schwerin mark.
I thought it was a fake . Thank you for strengthening my opinion .

Giorgio,
I have no idea about either of the above badges. They both look OK to me, but never saw either before. Where do you come up with all these one of a kind badges? John
Hi John
I have found the badge at a German dealer . I agree with you : the badges look OK
An other interesting badge , with solid swastika , but the eagle looks like similar in shape to the other badges

Hello,
As said before => terrible fake from a previous generation.
Here is what the real deal looks like. This example was awarded towards a glider pilot.
Cordial greetings,
Dear Stijn
many thanks. I have found this badge - with COA (?) in an auction . Rightly I was very suspicious

The MF could just stand for Metal Fabrik (spelling) and the P for Posen, as in WMF which if I remember correctly stands for W?rttembergische Metallwaren Fabrik.
Regards,
Pete
Hi Neil , Pete
many thanks , I have never come across this maker
