    1. ...wondered if this are legit pre 1939 pieces...

i could cope with an interwar private purchase, dont and cant justify $25000 on a wartime one ... but do not want post 1945 "ebay" type junk !!

      opinions or advise please .

      thanks

      kyokashinkai.

1/ Pour Le Merite (Blue Max) with crown, superb early post war quality silver gilt, loop suspension stamped J.G 938 (Godet)

    2. Recently purchased this cross which was described as

For sale here is a German (Prussian) Iron Cross with iron core and made in the correct three part construction.

side features the oak leaves and monogram of Friedrich Wilhelm (FW) and the date 1813. The other side is plain blackened iron.

The ring is stamped IW which I assume to be the Berlin maker ?Wagner?.

      The dimensions are as follows:

Width across arms : 42.2 mm

Weight excluding ribbon : 12.0 grammes

General condition : the German silver frame is tarnished with age. There is some rusting to the core. There are several dents and knocks. Generally well worn condition.

The ribbon is a good length of 9cm when folded and appears to be old and original in feel etc.

I can not say if this is an actual 1813 piece or if it was made later as an anniversary piece. Certainly an old item.

thought i had better double cheque whils i have a return period if unhappy

      thanks !!

    3. ..if you check the previous thread it was sogieman who stated that these were incorrect not me. I merely pointed out that i have not seen evendence eitherway.

There is reference to the award in Warren Carrols book though, as stated by Stogieman.

i would though love to see a pic of the back of your badge though ...information is power as they say.

Like you iam no expert ,just a collector of 30 years and we all make mistakes etc and have opinions.

As with my own collection i check and check again if eventually something is proved in all probability of being incorrect then i will get rid of it. It simply boils down to what one is happy with in their collection.

      kindest regards

      Steve

    4. ..i wont pass comment on the banner below crown debate, as i have never seen documentation confirming they were right or wrong,be interested to hear comments on the pics you have just posted.

can we see the rear of the badge please.

I will send pics of some of my bits if someone can post..for some reason cant upload my pics onto the site.

    5. I agree with Stogieman, theres many a fakes out there.and a large number of badges were produced post war for the post war and third reich period. The fashion and military society dictated the wearing of Imperial as well as post war awards.

Yet again you need to really handle the piece and see if any alarm bells ring.

      The site

      http://www.austro-hungarian-army.co.uk/

is super and offers good pictures of accepted genuine awards. As always its "buyer beware"

I presently own 3 original Austrian badges ,two from the Flayderman collection

Some of my collection is illustrated on the forum link below.

      Hope you enjoy looking ..

      regards to all

    6. Interesting debate, i would agree that the majority of the badges look incorrect ,the revets being totally wrong ,the only badge worth a second look would be the general flyers badge, but then handling it would be the key.

The boxed badges are 100% wrong,no way would zimbler sell a flight badge in another makers box. Non maker marked yes as badges were contracted out,but not like this.

      regards

      Steve
