Trust me Brian never hit a suspect with your Maglite in the UK unless you want to spend a lot of time with the rubber heelers!

I'm sure Met coppers of a certain vintage will remember the plastic torch you were issued with at Hendon that would illuminate the area the size of a postage stamp!

In my role I spend a lot of time in back gardens at 3 in the morning and I carry 3 Surefire torches that absolutely eat battery life and expensive batteries at that but are absolutely brilliant. As with most kit you have to buy yourself it's American but the company know what Police need and is a true lifesaver.

What style did the states choose? I think Sussex Police tried to reintroduce the white helmet in Brighton a few years ago but it didn't seen to catch on. Probably due to most officers preferring the flat cap.

In amongst Brians Special post the subject of White Duty helmets came up. Not wishing to hijack Brians post I was wondering if we could get a defenitive list of those forces that adopted the white helmet and hopefully get some photos of members collections.

It's a difficult compromise. You need the tradition with the top hat etc but we carry taser, firearms, CS canisters torches. The uniform I wear is woefully inadequate for the job I do but the powers that be are more concerned with us wearing a crappy little Velcro patch with your name on it rather than supply us with say rip proff trousers. There should be a number 1 uniform and something fit for the 21st century but it won't happen so we do what we have always done and buy your own kit.

I also joined the Police with a lad who's Dad was a copper before him and was the arresting officer of Christie which again is shown in the film.

Maybe depending on your politics you could say this chap is infamous but I wouldn't agree. This was prior to a bit of military service where he was badly wounded though at this time a serving Policeman.

He is the infamous John Reginald Hallyday Christie. If you want to know the story and watch a proper grown up scary movie you need to watch " 10 Rillington Place " starring Richard Attenborough and John Hurt.

The house is gone and the road renamed but I can vouch that people still look for it.

He did 11 years from 1961 to 1972 in the Catering Corps before joining the old bill.

You have to love Senior officers when it comes to dogs! They think there rank makes the dog not want to bite them!

It reminds me

of a Senior officer who was seen leaving the kennel block with blood pouring from a wound on the hand. Eventually they admitted to putting there hand through the bars of a kennel in order to stroke the doggie!

Now a GSD crossed with a wolf that sounds alot of fun
