    1. Ed - congratulations on starting such an interesting post - it was exactly what we all had in mind for this World policing section. The variations in equipment, uniforms and machines gives us comparison points.

COME-ON EVERYONE - TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR LOCAL POLICE. (We'll arrange food parcels to you !)

Going back to the pictures - I'm sorry to admit that the British Police look the untidiest and were mostly overweight....

      Mervyn,

Surely you must remember its all the cheese they have been eating!

    2. Balls, Fingers, Ears are common, broken noses probaly number 1. I have a nice canine scar through my wrist from my own dog and a couple of other dings from charming pit bulls!

I love the handlers excuse "I just told him to sit" yeah I think the handler was having ahem "Words" and the dog thought "You know what I don't want to take it from you"

      So ends the partnership

    3. And finally a Patch from the French National Police. A group of French officers spent the day on patrol with us. At the end of the shift to thank us and with the full encouragement of there senior officers they tried to give us their Kepis. We were more that happy to swap these for our helmets but our senior officers wouldn't allow it so all we got were the patches.

    4. Over the years I have been given various patches from off duty Police on Holiday in the UK.

Always a bit of a problem as we have nothing official to give back though apparently the odd bit of Equipment has made its way to a foreign clime

The first up is from Montgomery County Maryland.

    5. Fantastic Museum in d'Helfout Wizernes Pas De Calais France. This was to be the site of V2 rocket launches until put out of action by allied bombing. As well as the history of the V2 the occupation of France is well told and a very good section on the history of WW1 as the Somme is very nearby. A very good detour for anyone researching Northern France.

      Craig.

    6. This is a replica of a Horsa Glider taken at the Pegaus Bridge memorial in Normandy. Can anyone confirm that the Glider Regiment was the shortest lived regiment in the British Army?

I have also read that when they made the movie "The Longest Day" the director wanted to build a replica of the Horsa and fly it into Normandy but The Ministry of Aviation said it was not fly worthy. Christ they were brave men flying it and sitting in it!

    7. Mervyn,

I have some time off and am trying desperately to learn computer skills. I have a few bits and bobs from other countries that I am attempting to get posted but Im afraid I am a bit of a luddite.

There is also the problem that doing the job we do we don't really like to broadcast the fact but be assured we are friends here. I personally would love to see more American patches etc ( might get some trades going ) and I would love to see some French Gendarmie stuff.

Come on folks lets get posting

      Craig

    8. Mervyn,

We have to wear what the Dog Section would call Training blues. A horrible dark blue shirt and trousers. It comes about from when we are employed on Firearm operations and wear the same as our armed collegues. I guess it makes us less of a target. It does have the benefit of not showing up the mud when we have been searching the usual dumps where our little miscreants tend to hide.
