    1. Hello,
I have a portrait of Austrian major in uniform of lancers regiment "Archduke Carl" No. 3. Apparently he participated in suppression of hungarian uprising 1849 for which he received Leopold Order i Knight’s Cross, Russian order of St.Vladimir 4th class with swords. He also has a  medal, ribbon looks like Prussan "life saving". May be someone can help me identify it.

      Gentlemen,

Thank you all for your kind comments regarding my little St. Michael cross. Yes, it represents a knight’s 1st class cross, which, as Saschaw( ) points out, was awarded from 1837-1887. A full size cross is shown below.

I agree with Beau Newman that at such times Jörg Nimmergut’s magnum opus can be very useful… but Saschaw’s warning of errors must be heeded. Aside from that, Iwould add that Georg Schreiber’s “Die Bayerischen Orden und Ehrenzeichen” (printed in 1964) is helpful.

      Thank you all again.

    4. A group of awards to General Tomashevsky (Никола́й Константи́нович Томаше́вский) was split up and sold piece by piece. May be some one from this forum acquire part of it, I got some items too, and interested in one item that was sold one week earlier, separated from rest of the group. Will offer you a good deal for that one item.

    5. Just received this KCVO and when comparing to my earlier MVO I see the numbering style is more contemporary looking. Is it possible to date the period of manufacture or award based on the crown on the obverse top of the badge? I notice a difference in the various eras of DSO and am curious if it is possible to date the badge based on the engraving of the number or the crown motiff. I know they are king's crowns but not sure if there are variations in design over the years.

Can you show revers of both, star and the cross
