It's on one side then disappears in the edge at the bottom. The other side has the irregular pattern. It also does not have the Paris Mint mark on the reverse. I've seen others that do not. I also read that the first medals were made in London.

It looks quality in hand, but you can see the sides have lines, etc.

I received this medal today, and am concerned with finding cast marks on the sides. Weren't these die struck? Is this medal bad? Thanks in advance. Paul

Is this 1914 Star okay?
paul kennedy replied to paul kennedy's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
Yes I did. I have his service record and MIC (You can see the first page in the photo of the Star and BWM) That's how I knew about the IGS '08 medal. Thanks, Paul -

Tony, It could be a repair. It seems lighter at that point, and at the front, it looks like marks from a tool (pliers?) -

Sadly enough, via Google, I found out that the Victory Medal was with the group as recently as 5 April 2006, when it sold at auction. I bought it in 2007 or 2008. -

Thank you all for the input. I do love them for what they are, and will not be disappointed if I never find a reunite. I do, however, think it would be great if I could. -

Thank you very much. He is also entitled to an IGS 1908. I'd love to reunite his medals one day. -

I want to find the Victory Medal. I would love this to be my first reunite! -
I found it. It's the Caisse Nationale Du Gendarme. The i.d. tags are for a Estele Lucien Oran class of 1938. I suppose he must have joined the Gendarme after serving in the Armee Afrique du Nord.

These came together. I understand the top badge on the ribbon is for the Army in Africa, can anyone i.d. the pin with the shaking hands? It has the initials CNG on it. Thank you, Paul

Your Family in the "Great War" 1914-18
paul kennedy replied to Chris Boonzaier's topic in The Great War 1914 to 1918
I have my maternal grandfather's discharge papers. He was from New York City and posted in Motor Truck Company #435. My wife's family had Clarence Clevenger, 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Division, killed in action September 28, 1918. He is buried in the Meuse Argonne American Cemetery. -
