Now I found another one.

I have this portrait for quite some time in my collection. Today I compared it with the group photo and have recognized this man also as one of these Musikmeisters

Now for the name. Can anybody identify him ?

You already know this group photo of Reichswehr Musikmeisters, which I have for quite some time now:

The first one that I got a portrait of, was Georg F?rst:

Another thought that came into my mind is, that these are helmets from fallen or wounded soldiers with battle damages.

But why did they collect them and send them back to germany ? Most of them were "buried" on the battlefields I guess.

And what is in those big sacks ?? What do You think ?

More helmets ?

Maybe these sacks are full with uniforms - also from wounded men ?

If a soldier was wounded and brought to hospital his uniform was full of blood, torn, dirty. After his recovery ( or not ) he would get a new uniform.

Normally I would say that these torn clothes and equipment and helmets could be set to fire near the hospitals, but maybe germany needed the resources and an order was given not to destroy these "imperial properties" but send them back to the home garrison.

However, only a few ideas.

I like photos that make you think about them.

Interesting photo for all who love spike-helmets:

The photo was taken at the main station at G?rlitz, but no date on it.

Details:

I have no idea what they are doing.

Could it be, that when the troops were issued with new steel-helmets, they had to return their older spike-helmets to the supply forces ?

Any ideas ?

Very nice portrait.

I once had one portrait like this one, even a little bit better cause mine was an officer with IC 1st class.

I traded that portrait against 3 very good SS-portraits and that was already about 10 years ago.

These are very very rare, wonder how much the auction will bring.

Got this photo that morning

Haven't seen this type of POW markings so far.

The photo was made at a photographer's studio ( painted background )

The number on the insignia is 1605 and the word " Kriegsgefangen.... (Lager ?) " is quite good to recognize.

It is no armband, it is sewn to the sleeve.

No other insignia being worn.

Any information about this one ?

Yes, I see.

I was misleaded by the shape of the shoulder-boards, which look like they are pointed.

But You are both right of course, he's just a regular bavarian pilot.

The only portrait I got today on a local fleamarket ist that one:

First I thought it is Reichswehr, but when at home and looking closer to the uniform, I recognized that it is a Navy uniform.

He wears props on his shoulder-boards..

.. and the bavarian pilots badge..

The photo is dated 1916

When researching a bit about 1st WW Navy Pilots, I found out that there were Navy Pilot badges too, but this one is a regular bavarian Pilot's badge.

He is an NCO, I always thought that 1st WW pilots were officers, not as in WW 2, when many pilots were EMs and NCOs.

I think it is an interesting photo and maybe some people can add some more information on this one.

BTW - it was a 1 Euro buy.

To Rick. I don't know why this problem with the pics is still there. Do You still don't see them or is it a temporary thing ?

Don't know what to do. It is all in the same resolution and size as in all my other posts, I always scan in 300 dpi, resize the scan to 1000 pixel at the longest side and save them as Jpeg files with a 80 % reduction. That makes the best compromise between quality and size.

More interesting are the people at the left. Next to Kronprinz is a NSDAP-Leader and probably Mayor of the town G?rlitz (again). Any infos about him ?

And what organisation is the Sturmbannf?hrer ?? Marine-SA ??

And what about the Reichswehr officer. Neck decoration, Malteser Cross ?? And what is that stripe below ??

5. ) Later General Wiesner in the 1870/71 war

These 5 photos ( one is double ) are showing the later General Wiesner.

I would like to know a bit more about the person.

6.) A prussian General, photo taken at Danzig.

I was thinking that this could be a later photo of Wiesner too. I am not sure.

All photos are from one source, so it is possible, but how much did his face change in about 30 years ?

This photo was taken in Berlin. I presume he was Russian.

Can You tell me a bit about the man ?

I think it's an interesting photo, cause you see a lot of equipment. The photo was taken at Weimar.

3.) A Navy Officer and musician ??

Cause of the "Zweispitz" he must be a Navy Officer, right ? And a musician too ?

The photo was made at G?rlitz which is Saxonia.

4.) Another Navy soldier, also from G?rlitz.

What about his medal ?

As the first photo throws up a few question, I post the back here too.

It says:

" To my young comrade Helmut St?rmer aus Isen. In remembrance of our mission (operation / engagement) at the Saar 1944/45. Your friend Leo "

I do also not think he is Volkssturm.

The photo looks rather "home-made" and not like a quality studio taken photography.

It will probably stay a little mistery who he was.

Got some new portraits last sunday.

Feel that they are quite nice and some have ribbon bars too.

The first one is a wounded and old fighter, no breast eagle and no collar tabs. In captivity he wouldn't have worn all his awards for a photo, so I think he got home and made a photo for memories.

The next one has a nice ribbon bar, but no other info on that one

"Cool" looking officer

Another officer, army official with a rather small bar

And one young officer with his dad and mom, daddy as a bavarian police man. Note that junior did not fit the cap very well

Not much, but better than nothing.

It seems that I am quite lucky with signatures of people at the beginning of their career. I have an early von Brauchitsch signature, a Keitl signature from the mid-twenties and a Paulus signature of the early 30ties.

It is worth to check older "worthless" documents.

Got a couple of documents of a soldier of the Reichswehr up to the 1950ties when he joined the Police.

In the group are three documents, that are all signed by a Oberstleutnant Ruoff, Batallion Commander of the III. J?ger-Bataillon, 13. W?rtt. Inf. Rgt. in 1932:

There is a KC-winner and General der Infanterie Richard Ruoff, who won the KC in 1941. He also is listed as commander of the Armeegruppe Ruoff ( AOK 17 ) in 1942.

Now my question:

Could that be the same person ?

A regular army career could have brought him from Oberstleutnant in 1932 to a General in 1941, but Ruoff is not a rare name.

Can anybody verify that the General Richard Ruoff was the same Ruoff as on my documents ?

And I want to pronounce - that I have got ALL three photos at different times and places from different sources. All are fleamarket finds and only the last one of Brandt was slightly more expensive, cause of his clasp.

Now - a new goal in collecting for me - get portraits of all of these Bandmasters, and the better - with signatures.

Yes, a bit dreaming, but not impossible.

You are right, it was my thought too, that the only name that would make sense, is Brandt, but I was confused by the two "B's" in the dedication, but he probably used another style on his signature, as You said.

I have this photo of a meeting of Musikmeister from the Reichswehr period ( have shown it here already some time ago )

How about this one ?

Couldn't that be him ?

A bit younger, of course, but look at his eyes.

However, he is not wearing a IC ribbon in the buttonhole. Maybe Rick can compare the Ribbon bars.
