That will give me enough to go on. I'll confirm the family thing with my bother in law. He said the name was changed here in the USA to sound Dutch instead of German. I have heard of that happening before because of fear of reprisal during the war. I need to confirm when that happened or if indeed it DID happen.

None the less, lots need to be checked out. I was curious because after stumbling on VON HUELSEN, I remember what he had said and thought, maybe what he said is corrrect.

I 'll check the German refs. I'm fluent (for the most part) so that shouldn'r be a problem. I had found the stuff on the Axis forum also. I'm to get from our fellow forumites a listing of awards, etc. Sounds like if my brother in law is correct there are lots of family members to look at.

Can someone provide me with some information on WWII Generalmajor Heinrich-Hermann von H?lsen. He was captured in Africa and sent to Camp Clinton in Mississippi. Curious about his career, photo, awards, etc. My brother in-law's last name is Van Hilsen, but he said once that it was von Hulsen and was changed to sound Dutch. I'm curious to prove one way or another.

Wasn't sure with forum to post under as I look at the Imperial 99% of the time.

My two cents is it's odd. Having a Red Eagle, but lacking a 1897, or any other officer decorations at all just seems strange. But I'm no expert.

Has anyone contacted the Archives at Schloss Hohenzollern in Sigmaringen about rolls? They sent me once copies of the orders statues for the Hohenzollen Silver Merit medal once. MAybe they exist.

Just curious how the current exchange rate has affected other smaller hobbists, especially here in the USA. It certainly has put a damper on new acquisitions for me. The 25% extra for dollar to euro makes big purchases out of reach.

I think he's making a joke concerning the size. Wie wenn mann ein Kola bei McDonald's bestellt. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it came issued as the large size, Prinzengrosse was a special, private piece as is the 16mm mini for a chain.

That he was a mail man in interesting. For what it's worth, I once contacted the German Post Office Archives in think in Frankfurt. I found the email address on line. I had a question about a postal guy who was awarded ther Red Eagle. Anyways they sent me a photocopy of his complete history from their version of the RAnglisten. He ended up have the 1870 EK amongst a whole slew of other things. Might be worth a try. I know its a strange source, but it was very informative.

I had a doc once from a Friedrich Karl Renke, Reserve Ersatzregiment Nr. 4, Leutnant der Landwehr. His doc was dated: 27.7.17

It seems odd to me one would have the clasp on the EK for 1914, but no other WW1 awards. As a neophyte collector, I'd say no way.
