As stated, these do not appear very often. They are even harder to track down in nice condition; most I come across are in pretty worn condition.

Nice looking Richard Simm example. These sport the ball hinge hardware found on makers from the Gablonz area.

These are very similar to the JFS variants, albeit much harder to track down. I like these as well...

This one is a nice F. Zimmermann, silver grade. The solid Zimmermann's can be found with several different hardware set ups. The first hardware set up would fit into the raised guides on the reverse; a long barrel hinge and a elongated oval catch plate.

Yours still has the raised guides but is using a sheet metal hinge and a shorter, oval shaped catch plate.

Further along in the progression of the solid FZS examples a crimped in attachment method for the hinge and catch was used eliminating the need to solder the set up in place. The raised guides can still be seen on these first crimped in variants.

Finally, the crimped in examples are seen without the raised guide lines on the reverse. Obverse details remained the same throughout.

Although not as rare as some of the other examples, it is a desirable IAB especially in this condition.

Unusual in that the doc does not state "Bronze" or "silver"... usually they do.

Not really...of the 17 IAB docs in my collection, 10 do not indicate if it is a silver or bronze and 2 others have the word "silber" typed in.

In regards to the word "grade", it does not necessary have to be a stage or degree in a process.

It also can be used for persons or things all falling in the same specified limits or class.

The IAB's shown here are both zinc solid variants and what I consider later war variants. The issue date on the Doc is 1941, early on in the war.

Because of this and the fact there is a bronze and a silver IAB, my opinion would be this is a married set.

The two IAB's are a silver grade BSW, without seeing the reverse it is impossible to say which style / hardware set up it has.

The other is a bronze grade JFS.

The Doc looks to be the larger sized A4 example without the grade of IAB listed. More rare than the smaller A5 with the same font style and the grade listed below (silver or bronze) the words Infanterie-Strümabzeichen.

Your IAB is a Richard Simm & Sohne silver example. Yours had a type of frosted finish that is mostly gone with time. This type of finish is very delicate and did not hold up very well.
