Hello, My name is Neil and I'm new to the forum. I'm intrested in the history of the pre-world war 2 era Hong Kong police force. My main query regards the rank insignia of the inspectorate ranks of this era. Most of the refernce photos out there appear to show inspectors (in winter uniforms) wearing high-collar patrol jacket-style tunics without rank insignia on the eppulettes. They do seem to wear cuff braids similar to Austrian braids. Anyway, my qestion is was it common for colonial police forces to use braids as rank insignia in this way and can anyone explain the different patterns for sub-inspectors, inspectors and chief-inspectors?
