Scans on the way..check your mail!!
Joe - I think the restriction is something to do with the number of posts you have made - I'm sure someone will explain. I will be very happy to load them for you - and say they are from you. email them to me at cathay@iafrica.com
I think they are very interesting as a field of collecting - how did you start with them ? If the Malta Police have produced one I think you would have a lot of swops available. Mervyn

Mervyn, if I ever figure out how to attach some scans, I can send you some scans of coins from outside the USA, including the Metropolitan Police ones!! Every time I try to upload something, I get a rely that I am not authorised to upload any photos!! Any idea why is this !!
Joe
I do agree with Nick - the very word 'coin' indicates this new section. However, I would like to say Coin Sections gain - is a loss to Foreign Police - who needed the boost as well. Still, the last thing we want is any dissension and perhaps it is for the best. Scott's description was very informative.
One of my best friends was a former Met. Ch.Insp. and was in charge of the Firearm Section. I'm going to ask him if he has any of the Met. one that Tom mentions.
We have really only seen examples from the US and heard of some others - what about the European military and police ? Also, the US would have introduced this into Countries they serve-in - what about Japan and the Phillipines ?

Merwyn, I will be more then happy to upload my collection of challenge coins, but unfortunatly I am finding it difficult to upload them!! If someone maybe can give me a few hints or instructions, I will upload them all!!
Joe
I'm actually 'gob-smacked' with the variety of these attractive items. I thought I knew all - or, most - of the collecting fields , but this is so different. Since thay are almost an official ID is it actually permitted to have them ?
I hope we will see many other examples - I'm going to put a note on the board at the start.

Hello Mervyn,
Sorry for the late reply. I do have some photos of the Malta Police Museum. You will be happy to learn, that I played a huge part in the setting up of the museum. As a matter of fact, we were four in all. I have to find the photos, and will uploaded them.
The next time you are in Malta, be sure to let me know, so that you can sign my copy of your book.
take care
Joe
Welcome to GMIC , Adrob. I see you are in Malta - are you in the Police ? I have seen the pictures of this helmet - the original owner sold it on ebay, so it has disappeared from sight. Many British helmet plates were black and as we said, the helmet may have been issued from one of the Services. Remember, that in the early 1900's the British made their own rules ! We still like to, but no-one listens today........
Try and get us some photos from the Police Museum - would be very interesting. Last time I was in Valetta I presented a copy of my book to the Commissioner. Don't think he gave me anything ! I always liked the Phoenicia Hotel - have they up-dated it yet ?

Well, for one thing, I have never seen such a helmet with the red pargree, and for sure the King's Crown helmet badge was never black, but always silver.
For sure, that is not a police helmet..
