Hello Warthoq, Sorry about taking so long replying to you. Kevin's guide line answer is correct as far as it goes. But I should like to add that today in Germany although its not forbidden to sell third reich items on flea-markets so long the swastika is covered over, many market traders choose not to display them - keeping items on themselves or just inside the car. Buyers must make a point of asking them extra, "if they have anything military to sell". After a time you get a bit of intuition who may possibly have anything. So avoid housewives selling second hand clothes - women generally don't go in for militaria - people selling computer games, electrical goods, look for traders selling antique style items, old clocks, books, etc. Not I'm sure a foolproof system, but one I generally go by. Hello Rick, As ever many thanks for the prompt reply & information. As suggested I did try googling the name Wilhelm Ruckenbrod, but after one hour I had drawn a blank- nothing at all. However I did come across a list of of arbeitsgau with the numbers of units in each gau. The 300 unit came in the Bayern - Hochland which today would I suppose be Oberbayern. Oberbayern is still a large area, but it's a start. Thanks Regards

Hello My Friend, I must say the ribbon bars look well made and the metal crossed swords insignia have quality, but the three piece ribbon bar with the silver luftwaffe eagle insignia is far to crude a piece to fool a serious a collector. As for his claim that all ribbons are pre 1945, well a quick pass under a u.f.l. light should determine if his statement is true. Regards

Hello Don, Thanks for taking the time to reply, I got to thinking as third reich lasted only 12 years, have you any ideas how the badges were acredited i.e. the time spent in the imperial forces plus time in NS veterans bund, or did they reckon from a certain year date. I've been offered another veterans badge on much the same lines this one with 25 service years, not knowing too much about them. I shyed away from buying it, the condition is good, fully complete the asking price is 20 euro is that the going price? Once again many thanks. regards Alec

Hello All, Last weekend I picked up a WW1 era tinnie & a enamelled WW2 era pin badge. I know the pictures aren't the best ( my camera is playing up), but I would be grateful if someone could tell me what they represent. My own gut feelings are the tinnie "United and True" bavarian shield in middle, top left - shield with beehive & top right shield with throstle, all placed in front of a iron cross, is WW1. The WW2 badge could be something to do with ww1 veterans, but again I've no idea really what it means, or what the number 40 signifies, on the back are the letters - Ges. Gesch. 5 - Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hello Pete, Thanks for the tips, I'll give it a try with soap & water, see how it goes. I've a friend who works in the jewellery quarter in B'ham, they make a lot of replica products. I hope to get in touch with him, he may have a couple of ideas. Perhaps sand spray with very fine grain sand, or if you've ever seen a watchmaker clean a watch - watch in a liquid solution with electric currant running through. Looking through the data base I realized the maker was a common one, nevertheless that the details over the firm are almost unkown is surprising. Again many thanks to all.

Hello Mametz, The HJ dagger does have a scabbard, I was forced to crop it out of the dagger picture in order to reduce the size to 65K and be able to upload the picture, here's a picture. One thing that does bother me with the scabbard, is at the blade entrance, the thickened lip, which after going through a number of military web sites seems to be by common wisdom, a mistake made by a number of fakers. Any thoughts on this point? Hello SSJM, Many thanks for the pictures, I too had noticed the peebling effect or lack of one on the red section of the HJ insert on the dagger, I showed. If this peebling is a standard feature, then its certainly helpful in recognizing the genuine articule from the copies. The dagger blade is as clean as a whistle, no makers mark, no engraved script, nothing. I think after all considerations, I'll give it a miss and wait for another to show up. Still many thanks to you both, its not been a waste of time as I've learn a couple of things, that I'm sure will serve me well the next time a dagger comes into my hands. Cheers

Hello All, Could you possible help me out. I was thinking about buying this HJ dagger for a friends 50th birthday in August. I'm really not too au - fait with daggers, but I noticed the blade inscription "Blut und Ehre " is missing and have been wondering if its a orginal or made - up dagger. Any opinion you have would be welcome. Regards
