Good Morning Cat......
Seeing the number and label I am 90% sure it is just a number from a list used by the engraver..... Or issuing authority.....
Mike

You did not say how big the number is.....
It could be his warrant number or the number corresponding to his name from a list that was used by the organization that named it especially if they had a number of them to name at the same time.....

Have you by chance got the son's medals or know what he was entitled to? I'm looking to try and ascertain medal groups to bobbies that had the 1911 coronation medal and the WW2 defence medal (for police service). Particularly pairs like Percy may have had, whereby he had unbroken police service from being awarded the 1911 medal and being awarded the defence medal.
Sorry but what you see is what you get but thanks for confirming he may have had the Defence Medal......

Very nice groups Mike
For the last group, on his police papers, the man's name is given as Charles Shaxon Warrant No 87804
Can you please tell me what is the naming on the rim of Insp Thomas Worth's first medal (which I assume is an 1887 medal - he retired in 1896 and didn't come back as a pensioner for 1897). His 1902 medal was earned as a pensioner who re-joined. By the way he was a Sub Divisional Inspector when he retired (between Insp and Ch Insp).
Good Morning......
Thank You for your reply......
The naming on the first medal for Thomas is as follows: INSPT. T. WORTH W DIVN
In further digging I have found out that the Jubilee medal was given to a third son PERCY EDGAR WORTH, Joined 1910 Discharged 1946.....

OK Guys........
You made me do some digging...... Checked an old computer that I had just in case I had something about the medals on there.....
Found Him and his Son.....
The mans name was Lieutenant (Acting/Captain) Robert Melrose Hood, 1st Central Ontario Regiment. LG 15/July/1919
Citation reads a bit different than family lore:
He was in charge of the Armoured Train in the taking of Ourosozero 11th April 1919. When the train neared the station he ran ahead and shot three enemy with his revolver, one of whom was putting a shell in a field gun to fire at the train. His great gallantry and promptitude prevented this field gun from damaging the train ( attached Malamute Company)

Japanese Sword 1870 help ?????
in Japan
Posted
Good Morning Everyone......
Help.....
I have obtained the sword as shown below.....
I have been advised by a number of people that the design is similar to an American pattern of 1851.....
There are no markings of any kind on the blade just what looks like some Imperial markings on the hilt.....
There is an engraving that looks like two number Seven's on the hilt.....
I know nothing about this blade so any help would be greatly appreciated......
Thanks in advance.....
Mike
