Hello
The correct term in English would be "shell casings". That is an interesting stroy, and from what I have read it was a common occurance in an effort to avoid casualties for the Allies. No white flags or any sign of resistance, and they would fire artillery.
What are "Kleinkaliber rifles"?

You beat me to it. Right on.
@turtle
As you surmised he was not in the '38 list. It is going to take 30 -60 days according to NARA for me to get the disc on the other lists. will let you know what I find.
What is d.L.?

Hello turtle
I now have the 1938 list and I am looking, it's not in alphabetical order so it is taking some time.
On a different note....when it rains,it pours. I just ordered the 43 - 45 lists from NARA

S Bty RHA was stationed in India on the outbreak of war, and was sent to Mesopotamia in Feb 1915 where it spent the rest of the war.
The War Diary is available at the National Archives at Kew in this file:
WO 95/5087 "S" Battery Royal Horse Artillery 1915 Feb. - 1916 Dec.

In my view the Maxim machine gun would have to be right up near the top. It or one of its derivatives saw service with almost every army in the world, and had a service life from approximately 1885 to the Korean War!

Ghana Révolution Day Medal
I left Accra a week before the revolution.

His name was Anton Gunst born 11.04.1893 his rank was Zahlmeister der Reserve in 1938.
I loaded the list on a USB stick, I will look when I get some down time. Only issue is I might not have Internet till I come home. I won't know till I get to camp tomorrow.

No BBQ.
But it was the northernmost battle of the Civil War. St. Alban's Raid by Confederate raiders. Aided and abetted by Canada - some argue that also means tacit recognition of the Confederacy by Britain.
Interesting, I was not aware they had got that far north. Was this JEB Stuart?
