John B Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Hello All,I was just sent this submarine combat clasp. It appears to be all original to me but I just can't get past the small circle that is located where the crossed swords meet. There is a corresponding mark on the reverse as well. I have not seen this mark, or flaw, on any other sub clasps. I got an expertise of authenticity from Detlev with this and I'm attaching a scan of that as I can't get the same resolution with my equipment. Can anyone give me their opinion on this? Many Thanks!John
Gordon Williamson Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Close up scans of the clasp itself would make it easier to comment, but aren't there several of these "circular" marks, which might just be symptoms of the usual reaction between the bronze coating and the zinc base metal.
John B Posted July 30, 2006 Author Posted July 30, 2006 Hello Gordon,I see what you are saying but this looks more like something that may have happened during the manufacturing process. The small dot on the back is perfectly in line with the dot on the front and is into the metal. First time I've seen this and have decided to return it as a result. I do appeciate your looking at this.Best Regars,John
