Tomitchoe Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 hello,I got this medal some time ago. Its clearly a Belgian victory type medal unofficial type 2. the designer name Paul Dubois is not on it and it has a R hallmark under the wreath at the six o clock position on the reverse. The mystery to me is the golden leaf i found on the ribbon. I don't have any clue what it means. I think it has a Czech origin but i'm not sure. Any thoughts ?GreetzTom

Kev in Deva Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 (edited) here you go. the close up of the device.... Hallo Tomitchoe, well its not the usual style of Linden Leaf one normally associates with Czechaslovakian decorations although the ribbon has some similarities, (the Czech ribbons were of a very coarse weave,) I am not 100% sure but I think the Belgians might have supplied some of their medals to veterans of the Czech Legion, or this might just be a variation of the Belgian Victory Ribbon. At the moment my book on WW1 Victory Medals by A. Laslo is out to a friend. but I will check it out for you, if nobody else posts here.PS attached is a sample of Czech Victory Ribbon.Kevin in Deva. Edited October 28, 2006 by Kev in Deva
Tomitchoe Posted October 28, 2006 Author Posted October 28, 2006 hey Kev,I got the laslo book at home. I can't find anything on the device in the book.It really seems a mystery what this leaf is all about. The dealer I got this medal from also tried to find outwhere this leaf is coming from but he never managed to get any explanation. It seems pretty genuine to me. I'm really interested to find out what it means... Tom
