In the last Thies-Auction two turkish Go-Sets werde sold that belonged to General Kannengiesser

No 117 boxed Medjidie-GO-Set with Swords (knocking down 7000 Euro :speechless:

No 115 boxed Osmanie-Go-Set with swords (knocking down 6000 Euro :speechless:

My Question: Can somebody look up kannengiessers turkish decorations?

Has he got a Medjidie Grandcross-Set with swords or a GO-Set with swords?

The medjidie-Go-set shown in the catalogue ( No 115) looks for me like an Grandcross-Set (1. Class).

The breaststar shown in the catalogue measures 105 mm-diameter much to large

for the normal GO-Breaststars (75 or 85 mm) I know.

So i suppose i could be an GC-Set. The sash-badge is no indicator

the turkish gave often 3rd Classes (Neck-Decoration) as sash-badges.

i have the same set without box but plus Sash and I bought it as Grandcross-set.

    thanks in advance Josef (haynau)

I have xeroxes from an un-remembered German or Austrian auction catalog in the 1980s when George bought those. The awards of Kannengiesser and his wife were all sold as individual lots. I remember that the award documents were NOT offered and turned up fairly recently a few years back on eBay.

George got his medal bar, Osmanie with Star (sabers) and Medjidie with star (sabers). I believe the neck//sash badges had no suspensions-- at least none show in the catalog illustrations. He also got the General's ?M2K, and his wife's Turkish neck Order, the name of which escapes me (upside down star on right side up star shaped facets from an upright crescent and moon suspension). He did NOT get his PLM or Bavarian MVO-OX.

Unfortunately I do not remember the source of the catalog pages, nor do I have the text descriptions.

Los 1884 was the medal bar

    1885 was the ?M2K

    1886 was the Osmanie set

    1887 was the Medjidie set

1888 was his wife's Turkish Order

Also on the first catalog page were antique coins-- I don't think that original auction was a mainly militaria seller.

when did he get his austrian military merit cross 3rd class with war decoration which is shown on the bar?

as a kannengiesser got it at the 15 of march 1916 as kaiserlich ottomanischer Oberst (preussischer Oberstleutnant).

Yes, it is sadly another split "forever now 'anonymous' " EX-group then. :banger:

I have not been able to FIND scans I thought I had made of the award documents for Kannengiesser. I believe they were posted while actually on eBay and not on another website.
