David Layne Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 (edited) I have in my possession several items pertaining to my father Walter H. Layne's service with the R.A.F. It is only recently that I have become aware of the value of these items and I would be grateful for an estimate of their worth for insurance purposes. Briefly, Walter H. Layne flew a tour with 50 Squadron on Hampdens, and a tour with 97 Squadron's Lancaster's. Shot down in 1943, he was imprisoned at various camps and endured "The Long March" from Stalag Luft III to Lubeck. I have his Flight Log Book listing 64 "ops". Like many other prisoners, during his imprisonment he kept a "War Time Log" which is 100 pages of sketches, poems, fellow prisoners names, memories etc. Approximately 40 letters written from various P.O.W. camps. Approximately 20 letters written to him when he was a P.O.W. A diary kept by his wife Joan Layne during the time of his imprisonment. A Caterpillar Badge, a "Caterpillar Club" certificate of membership card, a Pathfinder Badge, a set of AG wings, various odd bits of paper written in German pertaining to his movement from camp to camp. His medals. Dog tags. There are a few more odds and ends to include photographs of him and his crew members. A picture with Johhny Tytherleigh who was killed on the Dam's Raid. The picture taken when they served together on 50 Squadron. Edited January 25, 2007 by David Layne
Ed_Haynes Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Can you give a non-reflective scan of the DFC. What is the date? For value, I'd check what similar groups (with documents) have gone for at DNW recently.A nice one.
