Kip Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 does anyone have any thoughts on this 1870 currently on ebay?http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=290076036748
Gordon Williamson Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I could be wrong, but I don';t like the look of that GODET mark on the reverse.
Biro Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 I could be wrong, but I don';t like the look of that GODET mark on the reverse. You're not wrong Gordon.Aside from the core, the marking on the ebay Godet is incorrect. You can see the small but significant differences here...
Biro Posted January 31, 2007 Posted January 31, 2007 (edited) ...and a similar cross showing the same spurious 'GODET' maker mark and dodgey hardware.Godet used two cores on there 1870 EK1's..... this was not one of them!.Marshall Edited January 31, 2007 by Biro
Kip Posted January 31, 2007 Author Posted January 31, 2007 thanks guys!it's interesting how the close-up of the "correct" godet stamp was struck twice - i guess they didn't have very steady hands back in '70
Tony J Posted February 1, 2007 Posted February 1, 2007 A double tap when striking the stamp. Usually one light tap to start so the stamp won't slide on the second finishing tap. Sometimes the stamping die jumps out a bit to cause a double tap.Tony
