Gordon Williamson
Awarded to those who took part in the war against Bolshevik forces in Siberia from 1918 until the inception of the award in 1920.
Gordon Williamson
Close up obverse. The striped effect on the blue part of the ribbon is caused by fading. The reverse as can be seen is overall deep blue.
Gordon Williamson
Reverse. The Kanji apparently read " Taisho 3rd Year to 9th Year War"
Guest Rick Research
Was there a different medal on the same ribbon for the 1914-18 war with Germany?
Gordon Williamson
RickThis blue/white ribbon however was indeed used on the 1914-15 War Medal for capturing the German territories such as Tsingtao.
Guest Rick Research
Ahhh... so what happened if a "1915" was ALSO entitled to a "1920?"
Gordon Williamson
Rick, once this one was introduced, it effectively replaced the earlier award which was no longer issued. No one could possess both.
Dieter3
Yeah, pretty common, I know. Still, love the medal. New arrival, very pleased with the condition. Came with a "matched" award document, but no pic. just yet of that. Anyway:

fukuoka
Rick, once this one was introduced, it effectively replaced the earlier award which was no longer issued. No one could possess both. Gordon, Actually, according to the official ordinances, no one could wear both. I have seen multiple instances of award documents showing the same sailor/soldier receiving both. Peterson made a translation error. The later medal is really a revised 1914-5 War Medal. If one had both, only the later medal could be worn. Cheers, Rich
