Guest Rick Research
I have no experience with the different types of Red Eagle and Crown Order Medals, but if someone can tell me between what YEARS this variety was awarded, I can tell you from Eric Ludvigsen's statistical work how MANY were awarded. westfale
Hi, Rick!It is the period between 1908 and 1916, in which this medal was given. before it was a silver one (except a few 1908 silver gold-plated), later the medal was made in zinc. Thanks for your help! Guest Rick Research
Wups. I spoke too soon. When I actually went to look, Eric has NO annual award numbers for the Red Eagle Order Medals. He only states that 137 silver-gilt pieces were awarded in 1908 before the copper-gilt type replaced them, and that an order was placed in 1916 for 1,000 gilded-zink medals of the final type--but that was probably NOT how many of those actually were awarded.Apparently Red Eagle Order and Crown Order Medals were NOT reported in the annual Prussian Orders Lists! Eric counted-- by the hundreds of thousands -- every Prussian award that WAS gazetted in those annual volumes.
