RRA227 Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 My engraved W.W.1 fighting knife. On the blade is a knight with a sword and a dragon. Also a E/K. Anybody else have any like this? Rich A. in Pa.
Brian Wolfe Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 Is this a post war engraving? I have never seen one engraved before. Could you post a close up of the blade please? A lot of German knives hit the market after WW II in an attempt to generate much needed income. Sometimes the seller added a bit of decoration to help sell it to the soldiers of the occupation. This particular style was used in both wars but the scabbard of the WW II varieties used a spring catch device so that the knife could be clipped in an easy to reach place on the uniform. An interesting piece. Thanks for sharing.Cheers Brian
RRA227 Posted January 14, 2008 Author Posted January 14, 2008 Brian,I do not know when it was done. This was gotten from a customer of the Army-Navy store that my friend owns. I was helping him at the time. It was brought in to sell a week earlier. The customer did not like the offer but brought it back later to sell. My friend lowered his offer because the customer brought it back. Needless to say the customer was upset and started to yell. I escorted them out of the store and paid them the $35 for the knife. They were happy then. I will try to get a better blade pic. I have W.W.2 knives with HAT,L5,L6 marks if I remember correct. Rich A. in Pa.
RRA227 Posted January 15, 2008 Author Posted January 15, 2008 Brian,Here is another pic. The detail of the engraving is very good. Looks like a factory made one. Rich A. in Pa.
