Engineer unit dated 1937 showing the Or's wearing the Kratchen cap (think thats what it's called) have other photos of the Unterofficer inthe middle of the group right hand side and letters to his widow which I'll post later

Yup. They are wearing Reichsheer hand-me-downs. Note that a number of them don't have collar Litzen, and one way in back has a concealed button front on his tunic. Even the guys in front with the new M1936 tunics are wearing old headgear and the 1934/35 type small cap eagles. Those are REALLY old issue uniform stocks!

Here is a nice early 1925 dated Pionier cap I just got, has the later insignia on it, obviously the guy wanted to wear it, this is a direct vet purchase from a friend, so it has not been messed with.
