This is an example of the Police Medal as described by Ed in his article at serial no 31.The medal is exactly the same as the one described with the question marks for the black and white ribbon in the article. I believe the variation of the ribbon to be for military issue.

There are three versions of this medal - Army, Poilce and Prison - only differentiated by the ribbon and all made by Spink. The one you illustrate bears on the obverse the inscription "Republic of Sudan" - I am not sure if there is a "Democratic Republic of Sudan" version, but I suspect so.

I have a different version of the medal which I will ask wife to photograph so that I can post it. It may be the version you are referring too.
