Help with shoulder board

I bought two shoulder boards today, for next to nothing. This is one of them that I think might be imperial german. I know that it is missing both pips, but it was very cheap. I would like to know what kind of board it is. Any help is appreciated.

The back looks like velvet.

The Vs on toip are black? Pre-World War Prussian Pioneers Hauptmann, I think from the plush. Does not appear to have ever had any regimental numbers, which suggests Guards.

It has been a lifelong mystery to me as to "why" 90% of imperial German officer boards seem to be denuded of their metal insignia.

Thank you very much. The V's on top of the board are black. I wonder where all the metal insignia have gone?

Prewar pioneers would have had a red backing. The black was added to the red in 1915, but black velvet would normally indicate something like a retired officer. That would also explain the lack of any unit number or Namenszug. Other possibilities for a M07/10 would be a Zeugsoffizier, or a Festungsbauoffizier, though the later would have had a device. The velvet is the key and I would say Zeugsoffizier would be the best match, either for the M07/10 or M15 Friedensuniform.
