He was the senior signals Oberleutnant on 1.1.19, but retired as char. Hauptmann aD.

Recalled for Wehrmacht service, in January 1939 he was

Hauptmann (E) 1.4.34 #559 on staff of the Nachrichtenger?tsabteilung ("WaJ R?7") of the OKH.

In May 1944 he was still in the OKH--

Oberstleutnant (S) 1.4.42 #954 in "Wa Z" section, wearing signal corps uniform.

Daniel shows him with the Turkish "Iron Half Moon."

Thank you, Rick. But Wilhelm von Thaden was later police officer:

    23.06.1920 Polizeihauptmann

01.04.1925 Polizeimajor (mit RDA vom 01.05.1928)

30.01.1938 Oberstleutnant der Schutzpolizei (mit Wirkung vom 01.02.1938 und RDA vom 09.11.1937)

21.12.1941 Oberst der Schutzpolizei (mit Wirkung vom 01.01.1942 und RDA vom 21.12.1941)

01.05.1944 Charakter als Generalmajor der Polizei

That's odd because there is only ONE regular officer spelled Thaden with one d (not Thadden like most of the family) and he was a signals officer in the Imperial army as you list--

so who on earth was the Wehrmacht (E) ONE-and-only ALSO a signals officer, then?

    Dear Rick,

I have the promotion dates from the Reichsrangliste der Offiziere der Ordnungspolizei 15.09.1943. The same promtion dates for Leutnant and Oberleutnant I found in the Rangliste der Kgl. Preu?ischen Armee until 1914 and in the Dienstaltersliste 1919.

Wilhelm von Thaden was 1936 - 1938 Kommandeur der Schutzpolizei L?beck.
