Mike Dwyer Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 seeking information upon one Werner Ackermann who was an ensign in @ 1908.Many thanks-In the 1914 Rangliste there's a Lt. z. Z. Werner Ackermann listed on the Prinzregent Luitpold.
Guest Rick Research Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Uh oh.The one and only Werner Ackermann was born 28 October 1888. Joined the Imperial Navy as a Seekadett 1 April 1908.F?hnrich zur See (would have been in 1909)Leutnant zur See 27.9.11 Rr Oberleutnant zur See 19.9.14 Mm (indicating he did not hold an Abitur)Served as a Watch Officer aboard S.M.S. Prinzregent Luitpold until April 1917.Submarine School to September 1917.You know what's coming next, don't you? First and only command--without ANY service as a submarine watch officer-- "UC 45" sunk itself in a diving accident at 11:09 AM in North sea, position 54?09'N, 07?35'E with the loss of all 30 men aboard. Submarine raised by German salvagers on 11 April 1918, and had just been refitted for service again when the war ended. Surrendered to the British and scrapped at Preston over the winter of 1919/20.So, whatcha got?
