Guest Darrell Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Hi all,Beautiful Tombak Sub Badge sold by Detlev today. I've never seen a reverse setup like on this one. Is this a Zimmerman piece?
Gordon Williamson Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 The reverse set up isn't that uncommon actually. Unfortunately though, the fact that the shot is taken at quite an angle rather than straight on, its hard to identify it properly. Definitely not a Zimmermann though. In fact most of the U-Boat Badges I've seen identified on Forums as Zimmermann badges ( other than those that are properly L/52 marked) are NOT in fact unmarked Zimmermann but unmarked B H Mayer (L/18). There is a subtle difference between the two makers almost identical badges that a lot of people obviously haven't spotted yet.

I was going by the reverse hardware only as it looks pretty close to the Zimmerman EK1s. Sure a nice badge at a very good price as well. Someone got a real keeper Edited October 21, 2005 by Darrell
Gordon Williamson Posted October 22, 2005 Posted October 22, 2005 Look at the sub conning tower, the deck gun etc, then visualise the fine piece just posted by Colin O. if it were photographed at the same oblique angle. Looks very much like it's one of the Tombak FO style badges. Same pin fitting too.
