Bison Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Found today a 1914-15 Star and a Victory Medal with this engraved name :WSA 1027.D.SMITH.SKR.R.N.R.Knowing almost nothing about the British medals, could you help me in identifying this abbreviation? Thanks in advanceBison
JBFloyd Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 Skipper, Royal Naval Reserve. Ranks with warrant officers. The WSA prefix means it's a war substantive appointment. Probably a man with experience in small craft, skippers were often in command of drifters and trawlers.
Bison Posted October 26, 2008 Author Posted October 26, 2008 Thanks a lot for this quick and accurate answer
