Stogieman Posted November 4, 2005 Posted November 4, 2005 I've raised this question before, in other places, but we shall try it again here. Does anybody have any examples of this little gem?
Stogieman Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 What you have is what appears to be the standard, late-war Bavarian slide-box as used primarily for various grades of the MVK.....
Stogieman Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 and another. The problem is I've never seen that style of box used for anything else.... nor have I ever seen that little round embossed MMJO stamp either....
Stogieman Posted November 4, 2005 Author Posted November 4, 2005 ..... and to boot, the cross appears to be silver-gilt. I thought all of these were gold?? If this is a hoax, it was a very expensive one to prepare and I would expect to have seen a number of these... but to date, 13 months after this one appeared, I have never seen another example!
Guest Brian von Etzel Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 many red flags, knowing how you are, how you don't want possible interlopers in your collection, it would rest best with me
Stogieman Posted November 5, 2005 Author Posted November 5, 2005 Well, I wish i could accomadate you. When this appeared I backed off after several friends in Germany cautioned me that the seller was known for "dubious" pieces. I should have bought anyway, it's the only one I have ever seen. If I had seen even 1 or 2 more, I would not be so perplexed.... but ONE!???
Stogieman Posted November 17, 2005 Author Posted November 17, 2005 As a comparison, here's an accepted/known case of issue ca. 1917 for the same piece!! Photo courtesy of WildCard
