    HI, I GOT A WW1 GROUP WW1 PAIR NAME TO A COLOUR SERJEANT TO THE ROYAL IRISH REGIMENT.BUT ON HIS LSGC MEDAL (GV) IT NAME TO M.E.S. NO ARMY NUMBER ON THE MEDAL.HIS RANK IS A S-SJT . ON HIS MIC HE GOT A POST 1920 ARMY NUMBER. SO NO ARMY PAPERS YET TO CHECK HIM UP. AM ASKING WHAT IS M.E.S.? AND WHAT DID THE M.E.S. IN THE ARMY ?.AND WHY IS THERE NO NUMBER NO THE MEDAL ? CAN ANYONE CAN HELP MANY THANKS PAUL

    HI, NAMING ON THE MEDAL IS. S-SJT.R.C.ROGERS.M.E.S. IT HAS NO ARMY NUMBER ON THE MEDAL. I LOOKED IN ALEC A.PURVES BOOK ON MEDALS, M.E.S. CAN BE MILITARY ENGINEERS SERVICES. LOOKED IN GORDONS BOOK CAN,T FIND M.E.S. IN THERE .LOOKED IN HOWARD WILLIAMSON GREAT WAR ABBREVIATIONS ITS NOT IN THERE.I PHONED THE R.E. MUSEUM THEY DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS UNIT SO NO HELP THERE

    It's likely your man was attached to the Military Engineering Services of the Indian Army, though I would've expected his parent unit on the medal. He may have transferred to the Indian Army proper.
