Medal Commemorating NATO Summit 2006 http://www.mod.gov.lv/Ministrija/Apbalvojumi.aspxThe Medal Commemorating NATO Summit 2006 was founded on June 21, 2007.The Medal Commemorating NATO Summit 2006 was awarded as an acknowledgement of appreciation for contribution to organizing and success of meeting of heads of state and government of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member countries in Rīga on 28 ? 29 November, 2006.The Medal Commemorating NATO Summit 2006 is made of brass. The Medal is a round shield that measures 38 mm in diameter.The official emblem of NATO with inscriptions SAMITS, SUMMIT and SOMMET, the national flag of Latvia, a panorama of Old Rīga and the year 2006 are depicted on the obverse of the Medal. The reverse has an inscription AIZSARDZĪBAS MINISTRA APBALVOJUMS (Minister of Defence Award) in the centre. Medals are numbered. According to the Statutes of the Medal Commemorating NATO Summit 2006 it was permitted to award a person with the Medal only once. Recommendations for a person to be awarded with the Medal where accepted by the MoD Awards Commission until September, 2007. The Medal Commemorating NATO Summit 2006 was conferred by an order of the Republic of Latvia Minister of Defence. The Minister of Defence was authorized to award a person with the Medal without a formal approval from the MoD Awards Commission. Awarding is not being continued.A total of 571 persons have been awarded with the Medal Commemorating NATO Summit 2006.The Medal Commemorating NATO Summit 2006 is worn in order of precedence after state and MoD awards on a 32 mm wide dark blue (symbolizes the colour of NATO flag) and light blue (symbolizes the colour of Rīga flag) ribbon separated in the middle with the Latvian red-white-red national colours. 10 mm wide ribbon is worn on a dress uniform.
