Beau Newman Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 At an OMSA convention in the late '90's, I found these boards on the table of the late Gordon Arnold, who usually dealt exclusively in Orders & Medals. Gordon was a well known authority on the Oldenburg Peter Friedrich Ludwig House Order. Somehow, he got these boards in a deal in Germany. Why only one of each, I have no idea. I recognized the cyphers as the 19th Oldenburg Dragoons and the 91st Oldenburg Infantry. Being general officer style, I can only think that these are both fo the Regimental Chef, who happened to be Friedrich August himself for both regiments. Are there any other possibilities for what these might be?
Naxos Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 (edited) I agree - beautiful boards Gro?herzog Friedrich August (1852-1931) Edited February 28, 2009 by Naxos
Chip Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 Beau,Beautiful pieces indeed! I think these boards could also be worn by a general who was "a' la suite" to the regiment or a retired general, who was allowed to wear the uniform of choice, often his original regiment. Perhaps someone else can verify this. I have a similar piece from the Hessian I.R.116. Chip
Naxos Posted February 28, 2009 Posted February 28, 2009 (edited) Nice one Chip - i like the subdued look and Hessian color woven in. I agree with Chip's statement - however, if both boards come from the same source, it points to Friedrich AugustHardy Edited February 28, 2009 by Naxos
