    Created on 11 June 1975 by Bundesgesetzbl?ter1 (BGB1) Nr. 371/1975 as a result of participation by Austria in U.N. peace keeping operations.

    The wound medal came in two classes;

    First Class is gold and is awarded for wounds that leave the recipient permanently affected;

    Second Class is silver and is awarded for wounds of which the recipient fully recovers.

    Bundesheer personnel would receive the wound medal from the Bundesminister f?r Landesverteidigung (Minister for Defense)

    On the obverse of the gold and silver awards the words ?DEM VERWUNDETEN SOLDATEN? appear above the National Military emblem surrounded by two oak leaf branches that are open at the top. The reverse of both bears an eagle, the national emblem of the Austrian Second Republic. The awards are suspended from a 40mm, tri-fold, Feldgr?n (dark green) ribbon with a 5mm wide red stripe on either side. Additional wounds would be indicated by 1mm red stripes in the centre of the dark green portion of the ribbon. Up to five 1mm red stripes may be applied. The regulations for indicating the number of wounds received follows the Regulations of Kaiser Karl 1, dated 12 August 1917 for wounded soldiers of the KuK Army.

    There also exists wound medals for Sicherheitbeh?rden (security/police personnel). These awards would be made by the Bundesminister f?r Inneres (Minister of the Interior)

    This award also comes in two classes;

    First Class is gold and is awarded for wounds that leave the recipient permanently affected;

    Second Class is silver and is awarded for wounds from which the recipient fully recovers.

    On the obverse of the gold and silver Sicherheitsbeh?rden medals are the words ?IM DIENSTE VERLETZT? (WOUNDED IN SERVICE) in a semi-circle at the bottom of the medal. Above these words is a wreath which is open at the top.
