Bear
Hello,I just picked up this miniature portrait. The sitter is wearing what seems to be civilian cloths with his military cap. Maybe an officer between wars. During this period officers would go on extended leave when the fighting stopped, and when war came they would be called back to duty. I'm not sure of the date but I'd guess 1800-1820.thanks,barry Edited April 23, 2009 by Bear

Bear
I've been looking through my books and found a surveyor-engineer. A surveyor might tend to wear civilian clothes.Cap looks similar The Apogee of the Empire Wagromby Hourtoulle & Jouineaupage 59Keep Looking  Edited April 24, 2009 by Bear
Guest Rick Research
Or a surgeon?
Ulsterman
I think a surgeon. They were not allowed officer status, despite Baron Larrys' protestations. They had official uniforms, but are shown in semi-civvy dress and had much greater lee-way in their affairs than military officers. The twisted, braided white cord is ringing a bell. Hmmmmmm......off to the scrolls. Edited April 25, 2009 by Ulsterman
Bear
A surgeon would be a very pleasant surprise. :jumping:
