Hello just got this document I have a few questions when his EKI was awarded he appears not to be in a unit or in between battles is this usual ? How would I try to trace his career on into WW2 Thanks Mark

You should be able to get his 1914-18 "Auszug aus der Kriegsrangliste" from the Bavarian War Archive.

That will show complete day by day war service. What you have above is the "highlighted summary" version.
