peterwj Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I am wondering if there are any other medals such as this given by New Quay, Cardiganshire given to sons who returned from the First World War?
JBFloyd Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 There are quite a few local medals for WWI service. I've listed some below (very incomplete listing, not updated for several years).British local tribute medals fall into two categories: (1) Commercially-produced types, usually from larger towns; (2) Locally-made pieces, usually made from a coin or token, and engraved with the appropriate information.AccringtonAllied Victory MedalAncient Order of Druids (AOD)Ansley AshingtonBarmill War Work PartyBatleyBatterseaBethel llansamletBethnal GreenBexley Heath, East Wickham, Welling BingleyBirmingham Black Torrington BMH (British Military Hospitals)BMT EmployeesBournemouthBradford Trader?s War FundBradford, YorkshireBradford?s ArmyBradford-upon-AvonBridgewaterBridlingtonBrierley HillBrighouseBritish LESMABritish Red Cross SocietyBurley-in-WarfedaleBurnleyBury St. EdmondsCanwickCaolvilleCapel, SurreyCarlisleCheadle and Churnet Valley DistrictChelseaChesterfieldChudleighChurch of Eng. leigh kitchen Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 Whereabouts was "The Beeches", any idea please? There was a hosptal of that name in Peterborough, Northants, WWI / WWII which in more recent years has been a nursng home. With those reasonably distinctive iinitals, Private Jones may be worth a look up in the Medal index Cards etc.
JBFloyd Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I never had a location on "The Beeches". I saw the medal at a show in London and just copied the info on the medal (and at this stage can't remember the piece at all).
peterwj Posted May 29, 2009 Author Posted May 29, 2009 (edited) Many thanks for the infomation. We have searched the medal card for Owen, but it doesn't show the local tribute medal, only a Victory and British medal. We'll keep searching . Again many thanks. Edited May 29, 2009 by peterwj
NoelCox Posted December 6, 2016 Posted December 6, 2016 Peterwj Do you still have the tribute medal for New Quay and if so do you have a picture of the obverse? Presumably the medal was presented cased.
