Gordon Craig
Gentlemen,Another Austrian Second Republic ribbon bar arrived at my front door a couple of days ago. This one appears to be for a civilian uniformed organization but I am not sure which one. The two red and white ribbons would appear to be from one of the states such as Tirol or Salzburg and are probably for long service to the state. The Red Cross ribbon has the correct device for the Second Republic but the ribbon does not match any Second Republic Red Cross awards in my reference material. Hidden behind the device are two white stripes about 1mm wide. Anyone have any ideas on the Red Cross award? The top ribbon is for the Federal medal "Wehrdienstmedaille in Silber Vordderseite.Regards,Gordon
Megan
The "Red Cross" medal is the Medal for Meritorious Service to Blood Transfusion (Medaille f?r Verdienste um das Blutspenden des ?sterreichischen Roten Kreuzes) in the bronze or 3rd Class. It's awarded for services to the blood transfusion service's operation, rather than for actually giving blood (there's a medal for that as well, of course!).
