Jim Baker Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Can anyone ID this patch? It appears to be painted on leather. Thanks.
Garth Thompson Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Jim,I think it is a variation of the VF-17 patch. Not sure as squadrons are not my forte.Garth
Jim Baker Posted December 3, 2005 Author Posted December 3, 2005 Hello Garth,Thanks much. Very glad to see you here. Your expertise is most welcome!!As long as I have you here, is this Armor School DI WWII period, or post war?
Jim Baker Posted December 3, 2005 Author Posted December 3, 2005 I also just bought this one. It's supposed to be marked sterling. I'll get better photos when it arrives.....
Garth Thompson Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Jim,On DI's I generally consider pin-backs and screw-backs WW2 thru Korea vintage but again DIs aren't my thing. I see a lot of the old names on this forum and I like the idea of being polite and helpful.Garth
Garth Thompson Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Jim,One other thing on DIs. The better the quality the earlier the DI. The enamelling and metal work on the early DIs is far superior to later ones. Since some of the unit designs have not changed at all since the 30s and 40s the quality of workmanship and materials may be the only way to date them.Garth
Jim Baker Posted December 3, 2005 Author Posted December 3, 2005 Thanks again Garth. You have certainly helped me out many times. Thank you, I certainly appreciate it!!You know I like to stick to strictly the WWII stuff, so maybe a DI guy will chime in?
