DDR M-56 Stahlhelm

Greetings,

I recently purchased an M-56 (obviously Type 1) helmet, dated 1980, complete with a tropical field cover (i.e. with a detachable flap covering the back of the neck) - the likes of which I've never seen. Given such a cover, might this have been made for export to Asia, or for use by East German advisors in Yemen or Angola, as was common at that time ? I've posed the question to a couple of sources, who were flatly unable to furnish any response whatsoever !! Enlighten me, if you please !!!
