azyeoman Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Hello, Was everyone who was awarded the '14-'15 or the '14 -'20 War Medal entitled to the WWI Victory Medal? I've seen medal bars that lack the Victory but have the War Medal. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
Paul L Murphy Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 The short answer is no. The 1914-20 War Medal was also given for service in Russia up to 1920 and I believe that people who qualified on that basis did not receive the Victory Medal.
Guest Rick Research Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Could it also be that post-Axis Pact the Victory was... quietly tucked away and simply not WORN so as not to "offend" the New Best Friend? That's what happened in Italy. Mussolini stopped wearing his and I've never seen one in an Italian WW2 group from a WW1 veteran....

A lot less of them were handed out than the War Medals sincemany of the war medal recipients qualified for it through service in Russia rather than true WWI service.
azyeoman Posted October 30, 2009 Author Posted October 30, 2009 Thank you very much. That clarifies it. I sincerely appreciate your help.
